Sprinting Toward Fat Loss

Weight Loss

Sprinting And Bodybuilding Go Hand In Hand

Sprinting is one of the few cardiovascular exercises that actually builds muscle tissue instead of breaking it down. If your someone who wants to build muscle or maintain the muscle mass while you burn fat, sprinting is a great method. When looking at a bodybuilder and a professional sprinter, you will notice they both have an impressive physique. This is not surprising since the hard core bodybuilder and the professional sprinter are remarkably similar in the intensity of their workout.

Sprinting Toward A Better Body

Professional sprinters have been known to have the leanest physique around. They have a low percentage of body fat while maintaining or increasing lean muscle mass. But, you don’t have to train like a professional sprinter to reap the fat burning rewards. A good sprinting workout program will increase your anaerobic performance, burn a ton of body fat, and is one of the best glute developing exercises out there.

Sprinting Workout Schedule

Depending on your goals, you can incorporate sprinting in with your weight training routine or just focus 100% on sprinting. If you want to receive the fastest fat loss results possible, I would recommended combining both sprinting and weight lifting throughout the week.

Sprinting / Weight Training Sample Routine

  • Monday: Chest, Shoulders, Triceps
  • Tuesday: Sprints
  • Wednesday: Rest
  • Thursday: Thighs and Calves
  • Friday: Back and Biceps
  • Saturday: Sprints
  • Sunday: Rest

Sprinting Intensity

Of course, you want to create a schedule that fits into your lifestyle. Duration of sprints and intensity of sprints will be determined by your fitness level. The more physically fit you are, the longer you will be able to sprint and less rest needed between sprints. A good rule of thumb is to rest until fully recovered so you can give 100% for your next sprint.

Total workout time will also be determined by your individual fitness level…

  • Beginners can start with 5 minutes of total workout time for sprints.
  • Intermediate should workout around 10 to 15 minutes.
  • And advanced athletes should workout for a total of 20 minutes.

It will not take long until you reach that 20 minute threshold. Remember, once you reach that benchmark, don’t stop there. Think intensity. Always try to improve on the total sprinting time and decrease the recovery time between sprints.

Benefits Of Sprinting…

  • Increased work capacity
  • Hamstring and glute growth
  • Increase lower body strength
  • Burn body fat.

Sprinting Final Thought

sprinting
The fastest and most effective means of burning unwanted body fat in my opinion is sprinting. When you want a tight lean midsection, sprinting is one of the best methods out there.
