When it comes to Bodybuilding Legs, many people especially men go to the gym and mainly focus on their upper body. In order to have an all around developed body, it is important to build muscles in your legs.
Building your leg muscles has many benefits. For instance, the upper body can only pump the amount of weight that the legs can handle to keep the entire body standing.
Running, cycling and playing most sports require the use of your legs. When you think about it, whenever you do an aerobic activity, it usually requires your thighs and calf muscles.
Burning Calories and Your Legs
As I’m sure you know, the bigger the muscle – the more calories you will burn. With that being said, your legs makes up forty percent of your body muscles. That’s a lot when you want to burn calories. Just one leg exercise such as the squats will burn more calories then any other particular upper body exercise, purely because of its size. Therefore, when burning calories through weight training or cardiovascular exercise, your legs are a big part of that process.
Leg Exercises Will Get Your Heart Pumping
When I do my squats, I find myself out of breath at the end of the exercise. Many types of exercises that requires the use of your legs will get your heart going. Jump lunges and blurpies are great exercises that combine an aerobic activity with muscle building. Sprints and high intensity interval training for running or cycling will also incorporate your thighs and calves so that you are bodybuilding legs as well as getting a cardiovascular exercise.
Some of my favorite leg exercises with weights include…
- Squats
- Calf raises
- Dumbbell lunges
- Dumbbell step ups
Some of my favorite non weight exercises for the legs are…
- Blurpies
- High jumps
- High knees
- Sprints
- Running
- Cycling
So, take full advantage of bodybuilding legs along with the rest of your body in order to look well develop and have equal strength throughout your whole body.
