Interval Training For Fat Loss Explained

The basic principle behind Interval Training For Fat Loss is to spend the duration of your workout in the high intensity mode, as long as you physically can.

Lets take running as an example for your workout. The best workout you can possibly do is to sprint for the entire time of the workout. However, no one can sprint for an entire 20 minutes. Instead, your aim should be to sprint as hard as you can and for as long as you can, then rest so you can repeat your sprinting.

Part 1 Of Interval Training For Fat Loss

When you first start your interval training for fat loss, you should aim for an all out exertion for around 10 to 20 seconds and a rest interval of about 40 to 50 seconds. This is a great start for a high intensity interval training workout. For beginners, aim for a total workout time of 10 minutes and gradually increase the total time to 20 minutes.

Part 2 Of Interval Training For Fat Loss

Once you reached your goal of 20 minutes total workout time, the next goal should be to increase the high intensity time (sprinting) and lower the resting time of each set. Here is a sample progressive time chart to explain what I mean…

  • 10 second sprint / 50 second rest
  • 20 second sprint / 40 second rest
  • 30 second sprint / 30 second rest
  • 40 second sprint / 20 second rest
  • 50 second sprint / 10 second rest

One sprint / rest = one minute. Also, one sprint / rest = one set.

Repeat 20 times to equal 20 minutes.

The longer the duration of high intensity, the more fat you will burn after the workout is over. This interval training for fat loss is the best type of exercise for burning fat. You will raise your metabolism after the workout is over which will allow your body to burn fat while at rest. Plus, you will maintain your muscle mass as a result of the short duration of the workout.
