Fat Loss Compared To Weight Loss

Weight Loss

This article will compare Fat Loss to Weight Loss and get you thinking about the differences between the two.

Weight loss is all about the amount of weight you lose (regardless of where it comes from). Fat loss is about losing and burning fat while still maintaining your muscle mass. The following information about fat loss will help you realize that weight loss is the worst thing you can do.

When you lose weight, your conception is one of the old saying “calories in versus calories out”. For weight loss, this is true. But, you will be losing more muscle mass then fat. And what you look like now will be little difference after losing the weight transformation except the fact that you will look like a smaller version of your old self.

Your body fat percentage will be the same, in some cases even higher. And since you have lost muscle mass, your metabolism has decreased, making it that much harder for you to burn fat further down the road.

Fat Loss on the other hand does not go by the old standard of “calories in versus calories out”. Losing fat is more of a hormonal response to the food you eat.

One example is if you were to eat cake in every meal but, only eat enough so that your calories are below what you are burning off each day, the chances are you will still be adding fat on your body.

On the other hand, you replace that cake with a lean protein source and vegetables, you can consume more calories then what you burn and still be losing fat off your body. The simple truth is, what you put into your body has a hormonal response to how your body uses and stores the energy.

More articles will be written later on describing what these hormones are and what roles they play on either storing food as fat or using the food as energy. The key is to start thinking about fat loss as a way of controlling your hormones rather then the amount of calories you consume.

Thanks for explaining the difference between Weight Loss & Fat Loss. After a major weight loss a few years ago (Weight Watchers half my size club) I’m one of those guys stuck on what the scale says. Now that I am working out 5-6 times per week and building muscle mass, I am really struggling with the weight gain (and yes, fat gain too). At 47, my diet is (mostly) healthy – the lean ripped look is just not happening…
I am looking forward to your next article explaining the diet necessary for Fat Loss.
