Personalizing Your Ab Training

Ab Training can be done daily or once a week. It depends on how your body responds to the workout. When you first start out, try to do your workout once a week and see how your body responds. After a couple of weeks, you can try working out your abs every other day. Then after a month or so, try ab training everyday. See which workout routine works best for you.

Targeting Different Muscle Groups For Your Ab Training

When performing different types of ab exercises, you will be able to stimulate certain parts of your core more than others. Knowing what ab exercises stimulate which ab muscles will help you when you want to personalize your own ab training routine.

Upper Ab Training

Crunches are great for targeting the upper abs. You can combine crunches with leg raises and bicycle kicks to get a complete core workout.

Lower Ab Training

Hanging leg raises and hanging knee raises are terrific for stimulating the lower ab muscles. If you can not perform a hanging leg raise, you can still target the lower abs by performing your leg raises on the floor.

Oblique Ab Training

Whenever you twist your waist, you are training the obliques. Try to incorporate twist with your crunches to activate your oblique muscles. A great exercise to isolate the oblique muscles is the twisting cable crunch.

Ab Training Variations

I would suggest trying all different kinds of ab exercises. Take what works for you and combine them into a workout. You can combine upper and a lower ab exercises to target the entire front abdominal wall and throw in some twisting ab exercises at the end to hit the obliques. Also, vary the…

  • reps
  • sets
  • rest times
  • tempo
  • intensity.

Confusing the muscle by changing these variables will go a long way in the success of abdominal muscle growth.

Best Time To Perform Your Ab Training

In my opinion, the best time to work your abs would be first thing in the morning before or after your cardio. The abdominals are a small muscle group and you do not need a lot of energy or calories to spark growth during your ab training.
